Extent: 1.5 cm of textual records
Peter M. Friesen, church leader and farmer, was born on December 13, 1901 in Reinland Village east of Winkler, Manitoba. He was the fourth of nine children born to Johann P. and Maria (nee Elias) Friesen. He was baptized on May 24, 1923 by Aeltester Henry J. Friesen and the following month married Margarethe Hiebert. They had no children of their own but took in two foster children, Maria Friesen and Helena Doell. Friesen was elected to the ministry in 1932 and ordained on November 31, 1948 by Aeltester Peter A. Toews. He was later elected and ordained as Aeltester on October 22, 1951 by Aeltester Peter S. Wiebe. Unfortunately Friesen was handicapped by poor health and only served for a short time as Aeltester. In 1955 John A. Friesen took over leadership in the church. During his four years of service, Friesen delivered 297 sermons and officiated at 10 weddings, 30 funerals, and 86 communion services. He baptized 198 people, conducted 7 ministerial elections and ordained 6 ministers. Peter M. Friesen died on July 15, 1957.
This fonds contains three sermons written for three special occasions, which included: a baptism, communion, and the ordination of Franz Thiesen.
